Cutout Lab provides background removal for images up to 16 megapixels. It offers both a free web editor for interactive use and an HTTP API endpoint at /v1.0/removebg designed for automated workflows.
The web editor requires no account and supports batch processing of up to 10 images. The HTTP API is compatible with remove.bg's request format, allowing existing scripts to migrate by changing only the endpoint origin and API key. The API supports multiple image input methods, output formats, and parameters for customization including size, format, cropping, scaling, and custom backgrounds.
Both the web editor and API are independently operated. The service accepts non-animated JPEG, PNG, or WebP images. Images can be downloaded in full resolution PNG, JPG, or WebP format with no watermark.

How do I migrate from remove.bg to Cutout Lab?
To migrate an existing remove.bg integration, change the endpoint origin from https://api.remove.bg to https://api.cutoutlabs.com and set your Cutout Lab API key in the X-Api-Key header. Your existing parameters and code structure remain unchanged.
What image specifications does the API support?
The API accepts non-animated JPEG, PNG, or WebP images up to 12 MB in file size and 12 megapixels in resolution. Image URLs are fetched with a 15-second timeout. The web editor supports images up to 25 MB and 40 megapixels.
How much does the free API tier provide?
The free API tier provides 50 images per day with no credit card required. The web editor is also completely free with no account needed and supports batch processing of up to 10 images.
Can I use the API with AI agents and frameworks?
Yes, the API integrates with AI agents through a hosted MCP server at https://api.cutoutlabs.com/mcp and an OpenAPI 3.1 specification at https://api.cutoutlabs.com/openapi.json. These can be used with Claude, GPT Actions, LangChain, Postman, and code generators.
What output formats are available?
The API returns images in PNG when transparency is present, otherwise JPG by default. It also supports WebP format and zip archives containing both color.jpg and alpha.png. You can also request only the grayscale alpha mask.
