A macOS menu bar app for sticky notes that stay visible during screen shares, with no account or cloud storage required.

Overview

The HushNotes homepage

HushNotes is a macOS menu bar application for creating and managing sticky notes that float above every other app, including full-screen applications. Notes stay out of screen shares, recordings, and screenshots by default using Apple's own window-sharing setting. Users can save text from any app with a single customizable keyboard shortcut, search all notes and captures in one place, and customize each note's appearance with different papers, colors, and opacity levels. Notes are stored locally on the Mac with optional iCloud sync between devices, and individual notes can be locked with Touch ID or password. The app includes features for developers to connect coding tools through a local endpoint with read-only access by default.

Buyer questions

Is there a subscription?

No. One payment covers the app and all future updates with no renewal to forget about.

What makes it private?

Notes live only on your Mac with no account or server. Note windows stay out of screen shares and screenshots, and any note can be locked with Touch ID.

Where are my notes stored?

Notes are written to your Mac as you type with no copy on our servers. Optionally, they can sync to your own private iCloud between Macs, never to us.

What happens when I share your screen?

Note windows stay out of screen shares, recordings, and screenshots by default using Apple's own window-sharing setting, with no mode to remember.

Can other apps read my notes?

Only if you enable the local endpoint and approve specific tools by name. They can read and create notes but never edit or delete, and locked notes are never shared.
