Day
One app. Every platform. All Day.
A framework for building native desktop and mobile apps in Rust that share UI and logic across platforms while using each platform's native controls.
Overview

The Day homepage
Day is an open-source framework for building native applications in Rust that run on desktop and mobile platforms. It lets developers write their app's interface and logic once in Rust, then Day connects that code to each platform's native UI toolkit—AppKit on macOS, UIKit on iOS, Material Components on Android, and desktop toolkits on Windows and Linux. Developers can share screens, layout, state, and event handlers across platforms while still accessing platform-specific features through extensions and native controls.
The framework includes tools for managing the full app lifecycle: a CLI for project creation, building, and packaging; support for localization using Fluent catalogs; UI testing through DayScript walkthroughs that work across platforms; and accessibility annotations that connect to native accessibility APIs. Day compiles Rust code to native machine code for each target and supports distribution to major app stores.
Day is designed for independent app makers, Rust developers bringing existing libraries to users, teams maintaining multiple platform builds, and developers building multilingual apps. The framework and its build tools are open source under the MPL-2.0 license.

Buyer questions
How does Day render the interface?
Day uses native UI toolkits for each platform: AppKit on macOS, UIKit on iOS, Material Components on Android, and desktop toolkits on Windows and Linux. Desktop and mobile backends create controls through their selected native UI toolkits. You can also embed a web view for web content or build for the experimental browser target.
Can I keep an existing Rust library?
Yes, when the library and its dependencies support your chosen targets. Keep it in a Cargo crate and connect its results to UI state. Use the async guidance for work that would otherwise block interaction.
Does a native control make the app accessible?
Native controls provide a starting point for accessibility, not a certification. Labels, grouping, focus, and backend capabilities still matter. You should use Day's accessibility annotations and test with the assistive technologies your audience uses.
Can one translation catalog serve every build?
Yes. Fluent catalogs generate Rust accessors that the shared UI uses on each target. Message arguments are checked against the generated API. Translators can express plural forms in the catalog.
Does Day submit the app to the stores?
The CLI builds packages and prepares store-listing metadata, but submission depends on separate store tools and credentials. Day handles building artifacts but the boundary between a built artifact and a distributable release requires your own store credentials and tools.
