HeimWall is a security monitoring solution for developers using AI coding tools. The free individual app runs on macOS and scans prompts entered into Cursor, Claude Desktop, VS Code with Copilot, ChatGPT Desktop, and Windsurf using 47 hand-written detection rules to identify secrets (like AWS keys and database credentials) and PII (such as social security numbers and customer emails) before they reach the AI tool's servers. Detection happens locally on the device with no network calls, and matched values are masked before any record is created. For teams, HeimWall offers a paid product with a manager dashboard that shows detection metadata without exposing the actual secrets, investigation mode with audit trails, and encrypted record storage. All detection uses deterministic regex patterns rather than AI models, ensuring explainable and consistent results.

Which AI tools does HeimWall monitor?
HeimWall covers Cursor, Claude Desktop, VS Code with Copilot, ChatGPT Desktop, and Windsurf. Detection uses a shared engine that reads the local app with no root certificate or system proxy, so adding a new tool is a release rather than a rewrite.
What happens to my prompts when HeimWall detects something?
On the free app, detection happens in memory and the prompt is not stored or sent anywhere; you receive a masked warning showing the detection category but never the actual secret. On Team plans, the redacted metadata (tool, category, severity, rule IDs, and a masked snippet) is sent to the manager, but matched values are removed from the snippet before it reaches servers.
Can HeimWall data be used in performance reviews?
No. The terms explicitly bar this data from performance review, promotion, and compensation decisions. This restriction is printed on every dashboard page and cannot be dismissed, and using HeimWall data for performance review is a breach of contract.
Does HeimWall work on Windows or Linux?
No. HeimWall runs only on macOS 13+ with Apple Silicon processors. Windows is on the roadmap but Linux is not. The engineering focuses on one platform done completely rather than three done halfway.
How much does the Team plan cost?
Team pricing is per seat on annual contracts starting at 10 seats. The exact price depends on fleet size, rollout, and support, so HeimWall provides a written quote after a call rather than listing a fixed price on the website.
