Mount object storage as a POSIX-compliant filesystem with native access on Mac, Windows, Linux, and Kubernetes, featuring forks, time travel, and version
Overview

The mountOS homepage
mountOS is a self-hosted distributed filesystem that mounts S3 and object storage as a native POSIX-compliant filesystem on Mac, Windows, Linux, and Kubernetes. Users can access data through native mounts, S3, WebHDFS, or Kubernetes CSI interfaces. The system includes built-in version history with configurable granularity (one minute by default), time travel to access earlier points in time, and volume forks for isolated experimentation. Data remains on customer-owned infrastructure and object storage. The free tier supports up to 10 TiB with all capabilities included.

Buyer questions
How can object storage be mounted as a POSIX filesystem?
mountOS mounts object storage as a native, POSIX-compliant filesystem on Mac, Windows, Linux, and Kubernetes, and serves S3 and WebHDFS APIs from the same volume. Applications read and write files as they are written, and the data lands in owned object storage.
Where does my data live?
Data lives on owned infrastructure: owned servers and owned object storage.
Do I have to schedule backups or snapshots?
No. Version history at a configurable granularity (one minute by default, down to a sub-minute window), time travel, and recently-deleted recovery are built into the storage. Open any version or deleted file and copy it out.
Can AI agents work with it?
Yes. Each client ships a read-only MCP connector, alongside a drop-in agent skill and llms.txt for any MCP-capable client.
How is POSIX compatibility verified?
With the industry filesystem suites, each covering a different surface: pjdfstest for POSIX compliance (8,789 tests), the Linux Test Project (LTP) for filesystem and system-call behavior, xfstests for filesystem regressions, fsx for I/O consistency under randomized operations, and IOR with mdtest for I/O throughput and metadata load.
