The VPS Snaps homepage

VPS Snaps is an automated backup service for developers and agencies managing 5-40 servers. It handles VPS snapshots from eight cloud providers, scheduled database dumps over SSH, Docker volume backups, file archives and Kubernetes manifests. Every backup lands in an S3-compatible bucket, Google Drive, Box, Dropbox or OneDrive that you control—never in VPS Snaps' own storage.

The service encrypts your provider tokens and SSH keys with AES-256-GCM, runs backups on your chosen schedule, records every run with its log and checksum, and alerts you on failure via email, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Chat or Discord. You can restore servers on demand or set up failover to a recovery server.

VPS Snaps offers a genuinely free plan with no credit card required and no trial countdown: one server, one backup job, daily backups with one-day retention. Paid plans add more servers, jobs, storage destinations and team members, with backups as frequent as every 5 minutes on Pro and Agency tiers.

Buyer questions

What is VPS Snaps, exactly?

A scheduler and runner that connects to cloud providers or SSH servers, points backup jobs at your own S3-compatible bucket, and executes on your chosen cadence. The worker wakes up on schedule, does the work, writes results to your bucket or provider account, and records what happened. There is no storage product to buy and no proprietary archive format.

How often can backups run?

Daily on Free and Starter, every 12 hours on Standard, and as often as every 5 minutes on Pro and Agency. The schedule form offers manual, every 5 minutes, hourly, every 12 hours, daily, weekly and monthly, with time of day and timezone anchoring.

What happens when a backup fails?

The run is marked FAILED with the underlying error text, the failure is written into the run's log, and a notification goes out on every channel configured. The job's row in the dashboard flips to failed state. Failed runs stay failed until their next scheduled slot or until manually re-run from the dashboard.

What counts as a server?

The server limit counts machines you register under Servers — the ones VPS Snaps reaches over SSH to run database, Docker and file backups. One machine is one server no matter how many jobs point at it, so a database dump, a file archive and a Docker volume job on the same box is three backup jobs against one server. Provider snapshot jobs work from a connected provider account rather than a registered server, so they draw on your backup-job count instead.

Is there really a free plan, or is it a trial?

It is a plan. There is no countdown, no expiry date and no card on file — the Free plan never asks for payment details. It exists because a single unbacked-up server is the most common way people lose data, and the barrier to fixing that should be nothing at all. The exact limits are on the Free card above; they are read live from the same database the app enforces them from.
