Overview

Ultraviolet Observability is a self-hosted observability platform designed for Kubernetes environments that runs entirely within your infrastructure. It captures distributed traces, logs, metrics, profiling and alerts without requiring code changes to your applications, using automatic instrumentation instead.

The platform stores all telemetry data on your own hardware and never sends it to external vendors, with no per-gigabyte ingestion charges or forced sampling. It supports air-gapped deployments where no internet connection is required, and provides full-stack visibility including service topology, dashboards, SLOs and alerting that evaluates rules locally within your environment.

Ultraviolet Observability offers features like OpenTelemetry-native support, correlation between logs and traces, real user monitoring with session replay, and multi-site deployments where remote clusters dial home over secure outbound connections. The pricing model is based on monitored nodes rather than data volume, making costs predictable.

Capabilities

  • Distributed traces and APM with automatic instrumentation across HTTP, gRPC, DNS and databases
  • Logs correlated to traces with severity faceting and live tail
  • Metrics pipeline supporting Prometheus remote-write and Fluent Bit
  • Kubernetes and infrastructure monitoring with node and workload health
  • Dashboards, SLOs with error budgets and Datadog dashboard import
  • Local alerting rules evaluated inside the core routed to Slack, PagerDuty, Teams or email
  • Real user monitoring with Core Web Vitals, session replay and browser to backend trace stitching
  • Multi-site support with remote clusters dialing home over outbound mTLS
  • OpenTelemetry-native support for OTLP over gRPC and HTTP
  • No code instrumentation required for application tracing

Pricing

Pricing model: Paid

Evaluation: Free for 30 days with full-function core and unlimited nodes during trial. Connected: $25 per node per month with 10-node minimum, billed on node-minutes. Air-gapped: Annual hand-carried license with no call-home. No per-GB, per-span or per-user fees.

Buyer questions

What is the overhead of collection on nodes?

Collection is lightweight and requires no code changes, sidecars or libraries. The collector uses approximately 25 millicores at idle plus roughly 0.6 millicores per request per second traced, about 320 MiB of memory, and reads only a bounded prefix of each request, never whole payloads.

Do we have to instrument our applications?

No. Traces across HTTP, gRPC, DNS and major databases are captured automatically with no code changes. If your services already emit OpenTelemetry, they can point directly at Ultraviolet and land in the same store correlated by trace ID.

What happens if the license expires?

The system degrades gracefully rather than crashing. After expiry you enter a grace window with full function and a renewal banner. On a connected core, auto-renewal usually closes this before anyone notices. Past the hard stop, ingest continues and the UI locks to the license page until a fresh license is provided.

Can one core serve multiple sites or clusters?

Yes. Remote sites dial the core over outbound mTLS on port 443 with no inbound ports required at the edge. Data buffers to disk so WAN outages delay rather than lose data. Every span carries a site_id for scoping views to one site or rolling up the entire fleet.

Is there a minimum commitment or discount for larger deployments?

Yes, licenses start at 10 nodes at $250 per month. Annual commitments and volume pricing are available, and discounts apply for air-gapped licenses. Contact the team for pricing on larger fleets.
