Overview

The Markero homepage
Markero is an end-to-end encrypted messaging application available on the web and Android. It requires only a username to create an account—no phone number, email address, or identity verification needed. Messages, files, and voice calls are encrypted on your device using PGP with Curve25519 before transmission, and servers store only encrypted ciphertext that cannot be decrypted by Markero or anyone who compromises the servers.
The service is hosted in the European Union and complies with GDPR protections. Two-factor authentication using TOTP is available on all accounts and strongly recommended. Users can create private groups, send voice messages, share files up to 10 MB (100 MB with Premium), and use invite-only private channels for broadcasting. Markero also provides an official Tor onion service for journalists, activists, and others who need to access the service without exposing their network location.
The core messaging experience is free, including end-to-end encrypted chats, group messaging, voice calls, and file sharing. Premium is optional and paid in cryptocurrency, starting at $4 per month, and offers higher storage limits, larger file uploads, and the ability to create multiple private channels without member caps.

Buyer questions
Is Markero really end-to-end encrypted?
Yes. Messages are encrypted in your browser with a PGP keypair before they reach Markero's servers. The servers store only ciphertext and cannot read messages or provide them to anyone who compromises the server.
Do I need an email or phone number to sign up?
No. Markero only requires a username and a password. There is no way to link your account to your identity through email or phone number.
Where are Markero servers hosted?
Markero servers are hosted in the European Union, which means your data is covered by GDPR protections.
What encryption does Markero use?
Markero uses PGP with a Curve25519 keypair. Passwords are stored as argon2 hashes. Your private key is never transmitted and messages are encrypted before they leave your device.
How does Markero keep my account secure?
Two-factor authentication (TOTP) is available on every account and strongly recommended — enable it during signup or any time from the app. Your private key is encrypted on your device; the server only sees ciphertext. With 2FA enabled, signing in needs your password plus a code.
