The SATIS Shield homepage

SATIS Shield is a BGP blackholing (RTBH) service designed for small networks and homelab operators. It delivers real-time threat intelligence as BGP routes your router blocks automatically, using the same technique large ISPs employ but adapted for single-router setups. Shield requires only a private ASN and a BGP-capable router (pfSense, OpenWrt, VyOS, BIRD, or FRR); multihoming and public ASNs are not required.

The service is auto-approved and live in minutes with no manual review. You configure a GRE or WireGuard tunnel to a SATIS point of presence in Los Angeles, Dallas, or Buffalo, then peer over a BGP session you control. Routes are scoped to your session and tagged with severity communities you select, preventing false positives.

Shield works behind residential or business-class ISP connections in bridge mode or double-NAT setups, making it accessible even on Spectrum, Comcast, and similar providers. The 14-day free trial requires no credit card; your session reverts automatically if you don't add a paid plan.

Buyer questions

What is RTBH / BGP blackholing?

Remote-Triggered Black Hole routing is a technique where your router announces a more-specific route for a malicious source IP with a special community tag, telling upstream routers to silently drop that traffic before it reaches your network. It is effective against connection-completing attacks like brute force, exploit attempts, and C2 callbacks, but does not stop volumetric floods unless you also enable uRPF on your own router.

Do I need to be multihomed to peer with SATIS?

No. A single router with a private ASN and a GRE or WireGuard tunnel to a SATIS BGP PoP is enough. Multihoming and public ASNs matter for announcing your own routes to the wider internet, not for receiving and acting on the blackhole feed.

Can I use Shield on a residential ISP connection?

Yes, as long as you put your own BGP-capable router behind it. Bridge mode is the cleanest setup, but it also works double-NAT'd behind an ISP gateway since the tunnel to SATIS is outbound-initiated.

What happens after the 14-day free trial?

Nothing charges automatically because there is no card on file. If you have not added a plan, your BGP session is revoked and your account reverts to Community with a countdown email notification.

How is Shield different from Professional or Enterprise plans?

Shield is purpose-built for RTBH with one BGP session and one GRE/WireGuard tunnel, focused entirely on blackholing. Professional and Enterprise plans build on the same peering infrastructure but add real-time SSE streaming and support for multiple sessions.
