Tidewall is a browser extension for Chrome and Edge that checks messages before they reach AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini and others. It detects and redacts personal data (names, emails, phone numbers, postcodes, NHS numbers, IP addresses), health and financial data (NHS numbers, payment cards, IBANs, sort codes), and secrets (API keys, passwords, database URLs) in one click. All checks run on your device with no account needed, and nothing you type leaves your browser. For teams, policies can be pushed through Google Workspace or Microsoft Intune to set company rules once across every browser. Available free for individuals, with paid Team and Business plans for organisations.

Does Tidewall see what I type?

No. The checks run inside your browser. Tidewall never stores or sends your messages and never contacts us. If your organisation turns on daily reports, each browser sends a count of what was caught (kinds of data, never the text) to an address your organisation owns.

Which AI tools does it work with?

ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Google AI Studio, NotebookLM, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity, DeepSeek, Mistral Le Chat, Grok, Meta AI, Poe, Hugging Face Chat and more. The company adds tools as they become popular.

Does it work in desktop or phone apps?

No. Tidewall works in Chrome and Edge, where most people use AI at work. Desktop AI apps and other browsers are not covered. On the Team plan, the rollout guide shows IT how to make the browser the only route to AI on work computers.

Will it slow me down?

Checks take about a millisecond. Messages with nothing sensitive go straight through; you only see Tidewall when it has found something.

Is it compliant with UK GDPR?

Tidewall helps you meet your obligations by stopping personal data reaching AI tools you do not have agreements with. Because it does not collect personal data itself, it does not add a new processor to your records.
