FirstCut is a browser-based narrative editor designed to help you discover and shape stories within footage before you build the final video in a traditional editor. Instead of starting with a timeline, you work with your footage organized into narrative beats—points where the story direction changes—and clips, which are actual spans of source material. You can explore different stories from the same footage, reshape beats and clips, refine individual words from the transcript, and play every revision immediately in your browser. The product includes an AI assistant that can translate editorial instructions into changes to your sequence. Your video never leaves your computer; only the audio is extracted and uploaded for transcription. Once your narrative works, you export the sequence with timecodes preserved to finish editing in professional software like Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or Final Cut Pro.

Studio: $99/month for 40 hours and 250 generations. Top-ups: $3 per extra media hour or $15 per 50 extra AI cuts.
